Political and economic turmoil overseas sank U.S. stocks early Friday. Soon after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down nearly 140 points, or 1.6%, to about 8472. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down about 37 points, or 2%, to 1796.
