Jim Cullen notes the improvements of food provision in Texas and I certainly
have noticed the improvements of food provisions in 'ghetto' areas in nyc, i
wonder if the yuppie revolution in demanding more and better quality foods
isn't having a more far reaching effect than otherwise expected. In other
words, perhaps the knowledge that there should and could be better quality
foods available have spread throughout the population. Also, does anyone
think the internationalization of the food industry has helped, i.e. fresh
produce from south america, israeli tomatoes, etc.?

p.s. one of the best places to shop in new york is still chinatown, one of the
most impoverished and crowded ethnic neighborhoods in NYC -- a city of crowded
ethnic neighborhoods. you have to make sure about the quality of the seafood,
but things like salmons steaks are $4-5 a pound as opposed to $8-9 a pound
everywhere else, and the fruits and vegetables are very cheap and very fresh.
