Food, garbage, food again Was: exclusion (Re: la revolution)

At the last restaurant I worked in, management went from defining the trash- bound muffins as "property" and firing a worker for taking a few before they hit the dumpster, to locking the "donation" bags in the office until the City Harvest truck showed up to collect them--with no concept that the shitty-paid workers might like to take some home to their families.

I wonder how many restaurant owner-donators encourage their dishwashers to grab some grub out of the donation bags before the truck comes--at just that curious moment when the price of that muffin drops from half-an-hours' wage to charity garbage removal.
