Sectarianism

Hello everyone,

Louis Proyect I believe put out a posting on another "nameless" list about sectarianism. I'm not going to crib that posting. I'm going to raise the topic. Doug had the temerity to say LBO was good because it was a safe place to be wild and woolly. Let's get down folks.

I was reading this book on the rise of Christianity. And the book goes on at boring length about what a religious sect is. They like to use the sociological term, intensification. And also the faithful have to leap over a curb to belong. Anyway what is sectarianism in peoples opinion, and could we do something about it? Of course there is also the temptation to cast the first stone, and point fingers. But I am serious about a very painful subject, and not looking for a little lamb to slaughter on the alter of "dogma". What do we think the devil is, and do we have any ideas about what we would do about such "evils" oh infants of left wing disorders and orders too? And what is not sectarianism?

One more thing, don't you feel when these little firestorms flare up, something about belonging to this list gets stirred up, and intensified? Is that the ...? I will now retreat out of the way and watch what others have to say. regards, Doyle
