Jimmy Carter's national security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski (sorta rhymes with Lewinsky, doesn't it?) was just interviewed on CNBC. No reassuring bromides from him! He declared Russia to be "entering a very serious crisis" (weren't they there already?), with political and economic "reform" as the major casualty (and I thought the Russian people were the casualties of reform!). Zbiggy further opined that the "privatization" process was actually an instance of "really monumental theft," which the U.S. has been behind all along. He sees the oligarchs joining with the Communists to create some kind of nationalist-populist "government of national unity" which would use subsdidies and inflation to preserve the wealth of the oligarchs. He sees the risk of "widening chaos internationally," worsened by the fact that the U.S. is now "headless," thanks to the Clinton's weakened state.

As he was speaking the Dow went from -280 to -320, though as everyone knows, correlation isn't causation.
