The distinction to make is between critical/scientific and
critical/utopian. Greens follow the utopian path first expressed by
Sismonde, slow down capitalist development and ameliorate the
destruction it causes. As Marx pointed out in his discussion of free
trade, concentration and centralization brings capital closer to its its
own destruction. It could be a close call, since global destruction of
environmental factors may not even be repairable under socialism, but
they certainly are not repairable under reduced technological regimes.
