Interestingly one of the problems the Japanese are facing is a real lack of bankruptcy laws and procedures. Bankruptcy seem like a "Get out of jail free" card, but it is more about the orderly disposition of debts and payments after a financial calamity. It socializes risk only among the lenders and creditors, at least theoretically.
