The political scale from left to right is not calibrated in decibels. Joe Hill
and the Wobblies organized groups to sing louder than the Salvation Army
singers, drowning out the SA message with clever, class-conscious, satirical,
anti-religious lyrics. Certainly IWW music had nothing in common with fascist
music, though several scholars on this list would no doubt castigate the
Wobblies for interfering with the Salvation Army's free speech when they
chased them off the sidewalks.
SA: There is power, power, wonder working power in the blood of the Lamb . . .
IWW: If you are tired of the blood of the Lamb, then join in the grand
Industrial Band . . .
or compare Joe Hill's The Preacher and the Slave with their Sweet Bye and Bye.
