i've never understood what the dems thought they would gain by defending
clinton, except maybe the image of martyrdom in the press and possibly in
2000. so far as i can tell, this can only delegitimate the political status
quo even more--the whole impeachment thing is so clearly political (in the
perjorative sense) that it can't but make the entire prospect of the repubs
as ruling majority look ridiculous. (at the same time, one would hope that
it would offer a real opportunity for third parties.)

so, i'm with you. fuck clinton.

btw, chris, found the stuff you posted about impeachment/tobacco really
interesting. don't understand what you mean about the "class struggle" that
subtends it, however. care to elaborate?
