Menchu was attacked by Dinesh D'Souza in his book on racism.Dinesh
claimed that Menchu was "brainwashed by Marxist-Leninists" i.e. the
Guatemalen resistance. D'Souza was refuted in turn by Jon Wiener I
think. Elizebeth Burgos is or was Regis Debray's wife. Anyone who
denies what the Guatemalen Army did in its counterinsurgency campaign is
a holocaust denier.Read Michael Mcclintock or the late Mario Payeras or
go to Nebaj and the Ixil triangle and see the mass graves for yourself.
Here is the conclusion from Stoll's book _Is Latin America Turning
Protestant?_
"Still, evangelical protestants are giving Latin Americans a new from of
social organization and a new way to express their hopes. The extent to
which they can provide converts with the terrestial corollaries of
grace-freedom ffom hunger, a measure of personal security and
advancement- is probably very limited. But for millions of Latin
Americas struggling to survive capitalist development and botched social
experimments, evangelical churches have become what Richard N. Adams
calls survival vehicles. Where traditional social organization is
breaking up, evangelical churches constitute new, more flexible groups
in which participation is volutary, where leadership is charasmatic, and
which are therefore more adaptible to rapidly changing conditions. What
this hold for the future is an open question." p 331.
Mi Madre De Dios! What did Stoll refute in Menchu's account and where
did he get his information? This Stoll book contains a bookjacket
endorsement from....C. Hitchens.
