Clarity

Holy moley, for a brief, ugly moment, I thought these were Doug Henwood's words.

I'm still really interested in hearing Jameson's idea of a relationship between long economic cycles and culture, but to this piece on clarity, I say-poop! Get a real job!

Stating complex ideas in clear terms is the real difficulty, it takes genius. And just because those ideas are stated clearly doesn't mean they are easily understood. It means that perhaps, with effort, they can be understood, and further communicated.

The "ugly" modern music he speaks of is being made by alienated, rebellious children, trying to claim a space outside the adult world, they have a good excuse.

As for Marx, his stuff is fronting a money system that in itself makes little sense, so naturally, a new way of thinking about this already difficult to conceive notiion, is going to be rough going.

I must note too, that this guys writing is a walk in the park, compared to that Butler sentence.

And another thing. Jameson can't possibly think that the people who live on soundbites are going to be reading this stuff. Poop. It's poop, I say.

Last night, I read Doug's "something to ponder" post for about the tenth time. I have q2uestions, but I'm still trying to pin them down cause it's difficult for me to understand why we have current account deficits from buying stuff that must have been paid for, among other things.

In this case, the difficulty is mine, and legitimate. What Jameson is talking about is an excuse for bad writing in pursuit of seperateness and superiority. Whoring for the mighty dollar in the School of the-better-than-thou.

Still dreaming of a common language, Paula, the world's slowest reader.
