I was at the local library yesterday waiting for my son to pick out a book on snakes 'cause his gramps caught him a snake. Yeehah! While there I scanned the new books shelves and stumbled over _Blaming the Brain: The Truth about Drugs and Mental Health_ Elliot S. Valenstein. He's a neuropsychologist, Doyle, so I wondered if you'd read him. It looks as if he very carefully examines the research, which I thought was helpful. I'll take a look see maybe, though I;m buried with work and probably won't have time for it. I always do this to myself--have too much work and run out and get books that I'd like to read but don't have time for.

Also checked out _The War Against Parents_ Cornel West and Sylvia Ann Hewlett. I read Katha Pollit on another list bitching about West's social conservativism. Anyone read it? Heard about it?

Oh and Joshua Gamson's Freaks Talk Back: Tabloid Talk Shows and Sexual Nonconformity. I've taught with Gamson before and read some of his stuff on Freaks on TV in the past. Looks like it might be good, but I hope he's improved writing-wise. He wasn't as awful as Butler, but he could have used an editor here and there.
