> REMEMBERING A HISTORY-MAKING MOVEMENT 30 YEARS LATER DRUM: THE
> BEAT GOES ON AND ON
> By General Baker
> Thirty years ago, in 1968, the Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement
> (DRUM) was founded at Chrysler's Hamtramck Assembly Plant near
> Detroit. It was the first of the RUM groups that later became part
> of the core of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers.

General Baker was one of the dedicated in-plant leaders of DRUM...he and others who were committed to plant organizing were later slighted as being provincial by those touting LRBW executive board members like Ken Cockerel who promoted community wide activities in Detroit.. .also, DRUM was established in the aftermath of the 1967 Detroit rebellion and black nationalism pervaded the organization...the positive role of nationalism in the formation of LRBW has generally been ignored by those focusing on the group's leadership which was decidedly Marxist...Michael Hoover
