NHS compares well with other health services
Financial Times p8, 15 June
The NHS is a rational and equitable way of delivering health services to people, a new report has concluded. The Institute for Public Policy Research found that a tax-funded system largely free at the point of use was more efficient than systems of private health care, social insurance or high user charges for state services. Professor Cam Donaldson who carried out the study, said Britain's system had low administrative costs, quicker access to family doctors and promoted better life expectancy than comparable systems abroad.
