Let's wind this one up. I think purveyors of morally dispicable ideas should be held morally responsible for what they do. But thwe sanction is moral condemnation. There's a big difference between Jeane Kirkpatrick advocating support for right wing authoritarian dictatorship in her books and her actively promoting such dictatorships as US policy in her official capacity as a UN Ambassador. The first sgould earn her out contempt and moral condemnation. The latter, in a just society, might bring her before a Nurnburg-like tribunal for crimes against humanity.
As for von Braun, however culpable he was depends on facts that I suspect neither of us know.
