One of the costs of sprawled development in the US is a mismatch
between jobs and housing...jobs in manufacturing, wholesaling, and
retailing have been moving to suburbs, meanwhile, exclusionary
practices of suburbs make it difficult for poor folks and minorities
in central cities to follow the jobs..they can't move to follow them,
nor can they travel to them because they do not have access to an
automobile or to adequate public transit...the result is high
unemployment and income deprivation...Michael Hoover
