The small state college where I went, is trying to get AACSB accreditation. It turns out that only 4 faculty members (all PhD economists) are the only ones that "make the grade." The admin is going to have to go out and hire accounting and finance PhDs if they want to get accredited. Now, while I think that may be a good idea, I have a hunch that this policy will have a negative impact on teaching quality. At least for accounting, you want practitioners not microeconomists!!! My wife is a CPA, and I have no doubt that she could talk accounting theory with any PhD - the problem is that she couldn't "rap" about "separating equilibria" and Minkowski hyperplanes!
