I too found some minor political faults with Michael Moore's films, but only after I stopped laughing. But then I did not go to his films or watch tv nation to learn the fine points of political organizing, only to appreciate the humor of someone whose politics were roughly similar to my own.
Now to Moore's response. At no time, did I see him get personal, to attack those who criticized him. He defended himself, but with courtesy and ended with an appreciation that his critics were also his allies.
I wish that we on the left could follow Moore's model. We would get a lot more done.
The tone of the Nation piece, in contrast, did call out for strong criticism. Sure, we all need more humor, but it is all too easy to depreciate those who work alongside us. I wonder which is the real Michael Moore.
In any case, thanks for the excellent post. -- Michael Perelman Economics Department California State University Chico, CA 95929
