Well, the Popular Front may not have know the depths of Jefferson's hypocrisy, but the fact that Jefferson was a hypocrit on the question of liberty was obvious for anyone who chose to highlight it. The Popular Front chose to ignore the hypocrisy in order to...well, maintain a popular front. Afterall, dissing ol' TJ, symbol of all that was good and right to many "white" farmers, would not have been very, uh, popular. Whiteness was at the core of the popular front, an untidy fact that lefty triumphalists like to ignore.
