Mandela cozied up to Bush in a despicable way, and gave Suharto South Africa's highest medal last year, in addition to a slew of other foreign policy fluffs like promoting massive expansions in SA int'l arms trade, downplaying massive Algerian human rights violations (so as to sell arms), taking terribly opportunistic positions on Burma and Nigeria, and to top it off invading Lesotho to restore an SA-friendly regime six weeks ago. What on earth would compel you to quote Mandela on such matters? Yankees have such a problem getting over their messianism in politics, it sometime seems.
