And what probably will be the main difficulty in organizing any decently organized campaign to block such commodification? Probably the overwhelming adherence of pwogressive or even progressive intellectuals to the Democratic Party. That adherence destroys political activism whenever there is a Dem in the White House. People who might be organizing various professional and semi-professional groups, campus caucuses, etc. will be too busy defending the last high crime or misdemeanor of the President. During the anti-war movement, activity stopped for only about 4 months in off-years and 6 to 8 months in presidential years. Now for many potential activists, politics is replaced by Dem activity 4 years out of 4. Probably Katrina should not have the primary blame for the corruption of the *Nation*; the Clinton corruption is pervasive, and she has just taken advantage of that swamp.
