" In the US, for example, you will quickly be deemed insane, in need of prozac, therapy, etc if you were to deny that your thoughts are your own, that the individual is *never* responsible for his/her fate, that you'd like others to make decisions for you, to take on some view denying scientific causality or quasi-causality. (Heck, even the psychic network tells people that, ultimately, *the caller* is resonsible, in the end, for his or her fate) Or, even better, try maintaining--to a general audience, of course, that you choose your friends, intimate relations, and will or have decided to have children solely on the basis of utilitarian calculations of what those friends, lovers, children can do for you, how they might benefit you materially. Etc. For the most part, of course, since there are probably exceptions. I'm just talking in terms of general trends, tendencies.
