Even if global financial markets have settled down, the age of market worship is over. Perhaps the Western elite can compartmentalize the growing horrors (they did so much to create!) in places like Indonesia and Russia, but the market fetishists have utterly lost that we-are-the-future psychological edge they've enjoyed worldwide for so many years. Of course, if the financial markets *stay" simmered down, it will be a long time before any effects of a revitalized global left are felt in the U.S.
