"Socialist policies will be revived"

An interesting question will what effect that Russian
events will have on the politics of the various eastern
European countries. During the 1990s there have come and
gone several different leftist governments (in Poland,
Hungary, Lithuania etc.) that were comprised
of ex-Communists. The policies of these governments
were for the most part, however, mildly social democratic
keeping within the policy parameters imposed by the IMF.
It will be interesting to see if there will be a new turn to
the left in eastern Europe (or perhaps a turn to the nationalist
right out of fear of Russia). If eastern European politics does
make a sharp left turn what will the consequences be for
the West?
