Gabriel Kolko influenced a whole generation of radical social science grad students in the 1960s. His "Triumph of Conservativism" is a classic. Kolko is well worth a read! His work on the history of railroad regulation is classic: capitalists facing irrational pricing and production decisions use the state to rationalize capitalist industry.
