This is not a tragedy. It is a farce.

When I was a child, the U.S. government prosecuted the publishers of Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita, saying that that brilliant artistic masterpiece was a pornographic work, and thus it would be against the public interest to allow it to be disseminated in the U.S.A.

How times have changed! Now the U.S. government itself has made itself the publisher of what will surely be the most widely distributed pornographic work in the entire history of literature. Not only that, but the dirty book was written at taxpayer expense.
