there's also the idea of the "third camp," rejecting both the capitalist camp and bureaucratic rule (the old USSR). This camp was proposed by Max Schactman (a Trotskyist dissident who shifted rightwards through most of his career to become a "social-democratic" supporter of Nixon against McGovern), perfected by Hal Draper (who didn't shift right as far as I know), and endorsed by yours truly.
