Incorporated by eight former senior military officers in 1987, under the laws of Delaware, MPRI is a closely held corporation owned and operated by former military officers and NCOs. MPRI is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, with program offices in several states and foreign countries. The company's business focus is on military matters, to include training, equipping, force design and management, professional development, concepts and doctrine, organizational and operational assistance, quick reaction military contractual support, and democracy transition assistance programs for the military forces of emerging republics. Now entering its 11th year, MPRI has over 400 employees. The 1997 volume of business exceeded 48,000,000. Organization and Management Oversight of the company is by a fourteen-member Board of Directors. The Board has an Executive Committee composed of four Board members who can act for the Board on all but major financial business decisions. General (Ret.) Frederick J. Kroesen is the Chairman of the Board and the Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee, and Major General (Ret.) Vernon B. Lewis, Jr. is the President and Chief Executive Officer of MPRI and Chairman of the Executive Committee. General (Ret.) Carl E. Vuono and General (Ret.) Joseph J. Went are the other members of the Executive Committee. The Board also has a Finance Committee, an Ethics and Quality Control Committee, a Business Development Committee, and a Public Relations and Political Affairs Committee. General Lewis has been the conceptualizer, principal incorporator, and CEO of two successful and continuing businesses---Cypress International and MPRI---since his retirement from the Army in 1977. He has twenty years of executive level experience in the defense contracting and international marketing business. Corporate senior management includes: General (Ret.) Ronald H. Griffith (Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer), Colonel (Ret.) Stephen E. Inman (Chief Financial Officer), Colonel (Ret.) Robert D. Wood (Senior Vice President for Contracting), General (Ret.) Carl E. Vuono (Vice President / General Manager of the International Group), and Lieutenant General (Ret.) Jared L. Bates (Vice President / General Manager of the Defense Group). Each of these retired military officers has in excess of 5 years private business experience. The carefully chosen headquarters staff of military professionals includes a contracting office, a human resources office, a finance office, and a strategic division, all of which support the business segments.
