Just curious: what's an "assault-type" rifle?

FWIW, I heard they had shotguns.
SWAT teams are in the building and if they perform true to form
we may never know whether the kids were trying to save their
fellow students from being batteries for the big machine.
Heh.
But of course there were plenty of witnesses: single out the kids of color and other people who were 'mean to me last year' is more like it.
Prediction: more moral outcry about kids and guns; plus, MSFT will rocket through the roof tomorrow morning.
