X occurred in the United States.

X is THEREFORE permeated with racism.

This has so been so fully established for so long, by historical, empirical, political, and analytical arguments that it is really no longer worth debating. The questions that it raises all involve how to deliver a cultural shock to those who pretend to question it. (No one questions it in good faith.)

The lengthy detailed arguments in this thread trying to downplay racism are a nice token of the fact that Pragmatism is merely the mask worn today by followers of Auguste Comte.
