wierd windows problem

I got my problem fixed.  The story is instructive.  Something screwed up
the entries for office 97 in the registry.  But Microsoft won't let you
uninstall all of office for fear that you might install a pirate version
of Officepro over it.  As so often happens, fear of losing a buck makes
the company sacrifice functionality.
