Well at least Australia finally got a saint, though nobody's doing anything appropriate about the saintly mould growing in a church near here -- and i just know that if it was in france or poland or the states we'd have some very enjoyable fuss.

Given the dubious reasons/motives/effects of canonisation in all periods, I really don't see anything very notable about JP2's way of doing things. They're a pretty dubious assemblage in most respects.

I still haven't heard the record, and I really do have to get around to it. But I do own a book of his poetry which is, well, really notable. And a glossy little christmas collection which finishes with a quote from John that I find conveniently evocative for JP2's world view -- 'one flock, one shepherd'.

What's quislingdom?

Catherine
