James, the whole point of being careful with this stuff is that no one knows for sure. GM holds big potential risks; I'm inclined to think the worrywarts are overdoing it, but it's not something to plunge into led by the principle of quarterly profit maximization. The same thing is true with climate change, where the scientific consensus is a lot more against you. Maybe it's all a lot of hype, but we're playing a very high-stakes game with the atmosphere. For someone who admires science so much, your position seems unscientifically rigid.
