G'day Max,

Er, you didn't spot my deliberate mistake, then (or could it be that you're simply too polite to put me right - nah).

Mark was of course quite mad, as by my tortured logic, he was in fact giving you those odds.

Still reckon he only got the dates wrong though - Wall St is still in the world, whether it knows it or not - and it's treating it like my (recently turned-) four-year-old treats his birthday presents - and they're already broken beyond repair.

Anyway, yours glowing with embarrassment, Rob. --------------------------

Hello Rob. I didn't spot a mistake because the overall logic of the post eluded me.

As for "Only got the dates wrong," isn't that like saying Greg Norman would be the world's greatest golfer, if only he didn't fold on the final day of his tournaments?

As for the inevitability of Dow/3000, well the betting window is still open. I'll fall back on the Texas basketball coach before the NCAA's a while back: "we're too dumb to be tricked," though he turned out to be wrong on the second part.
