Except that Adorno didn't rat out his colleagues in a vain attempt to hold on to a personal moralism, but held fast to the notion that somehow, somewhere, people could transform the system which imprisons them. As Patrick McGoohan said to Leo McKern in a magnificent episode of "The Prisoner":

No. 2: "You're a fool!" No. 6: "Yes, a fool. Not a rat."

The world needs more of such foolishness.
