Hey, at least with Ammiano, the red-baiting is ideologically warranted. He really is a pretty strong leftist who has led the fight for a range of progressive economic and social causes.

And if guilt by association counts, a very good friend who was a staff person for the Communist Party and then for the Committees of Correspondence in the Bay Area has been a long-time campaign activist for Amminano.

Can't get more quasi-communist than that :)
