WORKERS SEE RED

YPSILANTI, December 16 (AP) -- Events took a strange turn in the protest over plans to relocate the Purina Puppy Chow plant to Mexico. Workers were demanding that the plant remain in Michigan and had rallied to that end.

The crowd went aghast when an ethnic studies graduate student excoriated them for their selfishness. "How dare you deprive your Mexican brethren of their right to benefit from an improved international division of labor!" he ejaculated. The workers hung their heads in shame. But there was more to come.

Thereupon a retired english professor motion to several African-American members of the group. "You there, you should be leading this event." In fact one of them was among the leaders, but this did not faze the speaker. "The leadership should be African-American and female on principle," he insisted. The white males in leadership immediately resigned their leadership posts, and a group of hesitant, gender and race-qualified replacements hesitantly stepped forward. "But what should be do now?" they asked.

Whereupon a fearless unretired english professor leaped up and said, "Abolish capitalism! Demand full employment because capitalism cannot provide it! Go on strike!" "But the plant is closing," said the workers. How can we strike it?" "Support the strike of the Mexican workers at the new plant, whenever that happens," she responded. Go on strike at your new jobs, whatever they turn out to be!" The workers nodded, sagely stroking their chins.

And you know the rest of the story.
