The real wage gains are pretty impressive, the best in decades. Whether they can be sustained or not is another question, but they're strong and very broadly distributed. A sustained sub-5% unemployment rate and a significant hike in the minimum wage are the main reasons - though if Shaikh is right and the U.S. is in a long upswing, there could be a lot more where this came from. The numbers for black household incomes over the last few years are also very strong.
