The classic journalistic accounts on this subject are the various books by
"John Roy Carlson," particularly "Under Cover," which was a massive
bestseller during WWII. The author poses as an Italian fascist to
infiltrate and report on the various branches of the American fascist
movement; along the way he encounters all manner of blue bloods and
society folks pouring money on the Coughlinites, the American nazis, and
all varieties of anti-semitism. Needless to say, the book was
"controversial"; it deeply angered the blue bloods and captains of
industry who found their names named in it.
