Don't be so rude to the Hayekians, Max and Wojtek (at any rate, I
appreciate Wojtek's explanation for why the computer industry may appear as
misleadingly small part of GNP) . As for Hayek, he gets confusing, no? In
Fatal Conceit--his anti communist manifesto--he blames the socialist
movement simultaneously on the resurgence of instincts formed in our
primitive group history from which we have extricated ourselves only in the
last 40 generations or so and on the "constructivist" critical rationalism
just developed in the Enlightenment a couple of centuries ago. Socialism
is both too primitive and too modern while, as the liberatarian goldilocks
would have it, bourgeois society--oops, I mean, the extended order of human
cooperation--is just right.
