That was me. As I said, I realize I can sound like a sap taking a position like that, but I've always thought the left's most powerful weapon is simply sweet reason. That won't work with the very wealthy, who increasingly strike me as pathological and purely id-driven. However, the highly analytic types who constitute the "new class" should certainly be susceptible to the sheer force of logic that supports so many arguments for a more egalitarian society -- e.g., that the key motive forces of capitalism (fear and greed) impoverish the human spirit, that socialism (in Oscar Wilde's phrase) can "be the highest form of individualism."
