This ancient division seems to have survived to this day as a kind of residual gender/sexuality ideology even in core capitalist countries, though the dominant one has changed to the straight/homo division. This residual ideology of 'active/passive' division allows many 'straight' guys to have sex with other men while still feeling like 'real men,' not 'sissies.'
