For the last few years I have been trying to grow a giant pumpkin. I've tried various types of giant pumpkin seeds from different seed companies. I've prepared the soil, using rich topsoils and various friendly fertlizers like miracle grow and vegtable nitrogen. I've mixed sand in with the topsoil in various amounts. Watered regularly etc. Still no giant pumpkins have appeared in my garden. So maybe the seed companies are lying---maybe I'm going to have to get the seeds directly from a giant pumpkin!

Meanwhile the real threat to the nation and the world's food supply is sprawl. Sprawl is tearing up and black-topping over the best agricultural land in the USA. All in the name of p-stop convenience stores, Wal-Marts, Super K-Marts, and seedy motels.

Locally, as I have mentioned before, the Ohio turnpike wants to build another interchange here at state route 58 that will destroy wetlands, farmlands and orchards. The local central Lorain Co. watershed will be destroyed and the water quality of Lake Erie will suffer.

If you would like to make a comment to the Ohio EPA about why the State Route 58 interchange should not be built---you can---by sending your comment to patrick.gallaway at epa.state.oh.us or tom.harcarik at epa.state.oh.us

A couple of lines of email expressing concern about the water quality of Lake Erie and the wetlands would be a big help.
