Actually, "Northern Ireland" (the 6 northeastern counties of Ireland) is not itself a nation.But if the "hypothetical Northern Irish nation" were to become independent the Protestants would still be the majority there. Indeed, an independent Northern Ireland has long been the fallback position of the more hardline Protestants in the event that the union with Great Britain cannot be maintained.
