I think that the only way to tap into the progressive potential people have is through concrete struggles. I think that one place (but by no means the only one) this can be done is in peoples' workplaces. If this is so, the reactionary nature of so many of our unions, which do not even much consider the nature of work in our society, is really deplorable. And given the willingness of a fair number of immigrants, poor women, and minorities to protest when given the chance makes the racism of these same unions a sad thing.
