This is hardly a new thing. My alma mater, Queen's University at Kingston, signed a deal with pepsi nearly ten years ago, then followed it up with an exclusive deal with pepsico for food on campus - so almost everything there is either Marriott (who run the cafeterias) or Pepsi franchises, such as pizza hut.
This isn't uncommon at Canadian schools. For that matter, brewery sponsorships aren't uncommon (and are perhaps more common) at Canadian schools; McGill's teams play at Molson stadium and have for years, and Western inked a deal about three years ago for their new gym with one of the major brewers.
