Friends,

For those of you in the New York City area, there will be a book party and talk, featuring yours truly, at the Brecht Forum (122 W. 27th St., 10th Floor in Manhattan) on this coming Thursday, June 17 at 7:30 P.M. I will be talking about my new book, "Why Unions Matter." I would be delighted to meet fellow list members. Feel free to pass this message on to others who might be interested.

I'm also going to be on Doug's WBAI radio show at 5:30 that same evening and on WNYE in Brooklyn the next morning at 11:00.

In solidarity,

Michael Yates

p.s. there was an interesting article about Bhairavi Desai, a woman who is helping to lead the struggle to organize NYC's cab drivers, most of whom are, like her, South Asian immigrants. Her organization, the Taxi Workers' Alliance, organized the big strike last year. I asked Monthly Review to invite her to my talk. She sounds like a dynamite person.
