Microsoft makes oodles of money, so Gates's wealth isn't entirely built on air, I mean expectations. He regularly sells a few shares here & there to diversify. Bezos is in a very different situation. If he tried to unload shares anonymously, any significant volume would probably drive the Amazon price down pretty sharply. If it became known that *he* was selling the shares - and he'd have to disclose that - the price would probably collapse within moments of the news hitting the tape.
