Sometime during the 1996 election campaign Buchanan did an interview in the paleo-con weekly HUMAN EVENTS in which he lamented the fact that the German army had not intervented on the side of Croatia in the fighting with Serbia, thereby missing a chance to show that Germany had an important role still to play in the defence of western civilization.
