Greetings Sisters & Brothers,
As many of you know, I've been corresponding with and visiting Yogi (Hugo) for years. Yogi is a true freedom fighter, a warrior and a hero of our Black liberation movement and the international struggle for freedom. As geronimo notes, Yogi "saved lives," and helped make it safe for brothers to walk the yards of California prisons back in the '60s when racist guards in collusion with Aryan Brotherhood & Nazi inmates were murdering and brutalizing our brothers with impunity.
As some of you know, a New York prisoner convicted of murdering a cop (!!!), just won a lawsuit he filed for being kept in solitary 23-7 for four years! The judge awarded $660,000!!!
Yogi has been in solitary for 30 years! -- eight in the P.B. SHU, a windowless torture chamber.
Here's a form letter you may use to help you write to the Board in Yogi's behalf. Puleeeeeze do so at your earliest convenience. If you can also offer Yogi a job, that would be great.
Thanks mucho,
Kiilu

Greetings:
It's my understanding that Hugo L.A. Pinell (A88401) will appear before the Board next April.
As you may know, Mr. Pinell has been in California prisons since 1964, and has been kept in solitary confinement since 1969. He has spent the last eight years in the Security Housing Unit at Pelican Bay.
In 1976, Pinell and five other San Quentin inmates were tried for various charges, including murder, assault and conspiracy, stemming from events that occurred on August 21, 1971. Pinell was convicted on two assault charges. One of the six defendants, Johnny L. Spain was convicted of murder, and was released approximately ten years ago. In fact, Pinell is the only defendant who remains incarcerated to date.
I've been informed that Pinell has had no infractions or write-ups on his prison record for some 15 years or more. He will be 54 years old this month of March, '99, and has been in prison 35 years.
Pinell has strong support of family and friends here in the Bay Area to help him make the transition from prison to independent living. I therefore urge you to grant his release from the SHU, and let him return home in April.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
Sincerely yours,
